“Four more days, Ms. Guyon, and we wouldn’t be talking today.” Those were my cardiologist’s words. Just writing them here sends a chill down my spine.
On June 2, 2024, I was taking a walk with my family in the fields near our house. After 15 minutes of leisurely walking, my heart started racing, I became unusually short of breath, and I felt terribly tired. My family took me to the emergency room. A few hours later, the diagnosis came: I was having a severe pulmonary embolism.
For someone like me—who works out, eats a balanced diet, meditates, and practices cardiac coherence—it was a real shock.
So, when I had to stay in the hospital for treatment, there was no way I was going to let my teams down. Even from a distance, I kept in touch with them, supported them, and stayed present. Through this ordeal, I remained a pillar of strength for them.
So even though this experience remains a mystery to me—since I’m under regular medical care—I’ve learned six things:
▪️ Surround yourself with positive people; true relationships reveal themselves in difficult times. Those who matter will be by your side.
▪️ Be authentic: life is too short to pretend to be someone you’re not.
▪️ Let go: when faced with the unexpected, acceptance becomes your greatest strength.
▪️ Get regular medical checkups: especially for women, get heart screenings.
▪️ Learn to manage your stress: it can have a significant impact on your health.
▪️ Stay active: walk, move around, and avoid a sedentary lifestyle.
I can’t thank the medical staff enough for saving my life that day.
Take care of yourself because life is short.
Another classic day for a full-time mom in her early forties: work at 7am, off at 3pm, I'm home. I allow myself a good hour's active walking with my girlfriends, do a bit of tidying up, cook my evening meal. Then it's off to bed. At 3.15am, I wake up suddenly with a pain in the middle [...]
“I lead a fast-paced life: a successful professional and an athlete always on the go. During lockdown, I started experiencing persistent shortness of breath and intense fatigue, but I brushed these symptoms off despite my family history. An initial cardiology evaluation seemed reassuring. I [...]
On May 28, 2024, everything seemed perfect. It was a bright day, with an exciting shoot and a supportive team. As a communications director, I was doing what I love: communicating, creating, and sharing. The only downside was that I felt short of breath throughout the day. Nothing alarming, I [...]
